Fredericksburg, Texas

Thursday, August 6, 2015

The Texas hill country has become a second home and sanctuary for my family.  It’s a place where we gather our thoughts, slow down, and spend quality time together.  My boys play outside until dusk, sleep like champions, and wake up ready to roll every morning.  My family has a ranch in Fredericksburg, Texas, a town I have grown to love dearly.  I try to support local business, and explore my surroundings when we visit.  My latest trip consisted of visiting a local farm, finding a cool new restaurant, and searching for others establishments who support local foods. We had a fabulous week in God's country.

Tubby's Ice House
Caribbean Fare/ Beer & Wine/ Bocce Ball/ Playscape

This local joint has such a fun atmosphere for kids and adults alike.  They offer a unique Caribbean inspired menu, outdoor seating, bocce ball, and a play area for the kiddos.  With it's "Austin" vibe I can see the evolution of Fredericksburg. The cool factor is quickly barreling through the community and I'm digging it. They also had locally made, organic popsicles for my boys. Mama was happy about that!  Side note: If you are lucky enough to visit during the week, head over to Tubby's for Taco Tuesday!

I love taking my boys to this beautiful orchard. We get to pick our own strawberries, blackberries, peaches, and vegetables.  My two year old, Rory, finds it absolutely fascinating and is willing to eat whatever he picks.  It's a nice way to encourage healthy foods in our home.  He feels apart of the process, and is willing to try new things. Toddlers are like teenagers…they must think it's their idea. =)  Check out their Facebook page for openings and closings.  The orchard is open seasonally and the availability of their product varies.

"Food the way it should be"
Abundant table stole my heart. A one stop shop, in the heart of the hill country, offering locally sourced meats, dairy, eggs, deli meat, coffee, honey, and produce. They also offer a delivery service for hill country families in the area.  As I walked into the store, I was pleasantly surprised by the beautiful interior and the amazing gift selection. I was welcomed with a hug and a warm greeting from the owner and manager.  This family owned establishment is truly passionate about what they are bringing to the "table".  They are knowledgable about the current food movementt and are truly dedicated to building relationships with Texas ranchers and farmers.  I am looking forward to my next visit!

The hand made cheeses I purchased from Abundant Table, by CKC Farms were outstanding. They paired well with our hand picked tomatoes!

Our last stop was the Thursday evening Farmers Market at Marktplatz Kinder Halle.  A beautiful display of local fruits, vegetables, meats, seafood, wine, pizza and tacos! Live music and the city playground were added bonuses!

Home sweet home.

We are finally settling into our sweet home and it FEELS SO GOOD! As far as decor goes, I wanted a homey, yet clean look.  I was a bit tired of the "traditional" feel of my last home and knew I wanted to jazz this one up a little.  In staying true to what I find comfortable in a home, I added a few surprise elements that gave the space the edge I was going for, without being too trendy. For example, I added a touch of Farrow and Ball "Ocelot" wallpaper behind my bookshelf to add texture, art, and color. I purchased this via Boxwood Interiors, with the help of sweet Lauren Friedrichs. in Houston, Texas. In order to transform this room, painting the walls was must. The colors chosen were Farrow and Ball's Skimming Stone and for the bookshelf, Charleston Gray. The color is soothing and fashionable.
I also believe in adding a touch of PINK to every room, pink adds color without being so  IN YO FACE!!  My next goal for this room is to hang the television and add greenery.  A little GREEN never hurt NOBODY!

The dining room- is one of my favorite rooms in my home! The painting by Nicole Cohen truly makes me happy.  The colors are fun, young, and fresh.  It allows me to pull different colors around the room while accessorizing.  The table is a neutral staple from Restoration Hardware which gives me a blank canvas to work with. The chandelier-  I wanted to reflect the same feel as the painting...a young, fresh and more modern feel, so a ghost chandelier seemed to have all the answers.
This room and my living are still in the works so bare with me through the progression. More to come!

Home project. Take one.

Hello friends! Wow, I have had a whirlwind of a year (or two)!! After starting a cupcake biz, getting married, and having a baby I am back to blogging.
Things have settled down on my end of things and I have now put my focus on decorating our new home. My husband and I bought a 1937 bungalow in the Houston area. It needed a little tlc so I will be sharing my before afters of the entire project.
Along with culinary, interior design has always piqued my interest and as of now I am ready to roll with it. I am no expert but I know what I like. So, if you have any questions or need decorating advice I would love to help you. Here is a little piqued into my new project...

Well, hello there! Happy to be back and blogging!! After many months of research, baking, and tons of hard work Friendswood, Texas now has a new addition.  This new addition is called Rise Cupcakes...  Rise Cupcakes is a cupcake boutique owned and run by two best friends. Each cupcake is made cage-free eggs, local dairy, and gourmet ingredients. Opening Rise Cupcakes has been such an amazing accomplishment for us and we hope that everyone who enters our door will feel the love we have put into this happy little bakery.
